Democrat Club to meet
The Western Sussex Democrat Club will meet Monday, Jan. 31, 6:30 p.m. at St. Philips Episcopal Church, South Central Avenue, Laurel. Participants may take a covered dish.
Guest speaker will be Rick Bayard, Democratic state chairman.

Band to hold yard sale
The Delmar Jr./Sr. High School band is hosting a yard sale and bake sale Saturday, Jan. 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Delmar High School.

Cub Scouts plan breakfast
Laurel Club Scout Pack 90 will hold its annual breakfast fund-raiser Saturday, Jan. 22, at Centenary United Methodist Church hall, from 6-11 a.m. Cost is $5 for all you can eat as well as for carryouts.
Library series focuses on bay
The Laurel Public Library is sponsoring a series on environmental threats to the Chesapeake Bay region and to the people who work the water. Meetings are on Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., at Travel Perks, Laureltowne.
On Jan. 20, John Wennersten's book, "Maryland's Eastern Shore," will be discussed. This book charts the evolution of both the region and its people and characterizes the lifestyle of the Eastern Shoreman. Speaker will be Lorena Stone, Wesley College.

High school to host social
Laurel High School will host a social for parents and other community members Saturday, Feb. 5, from 7-9 p.m.
